The mathematics and Early Years' teams have collaborated to develop the HfL 'Working Mathematically' document further.

The strands of skills have been tracked back to the earlier stages of learning to support all practitioners with progression. It is interesting to note that the language for these skills were drawn from nearly all areas of the EYFS curriculum and the characteristics of effective learning.

This skills needed to be a successful mathematician span the whole curriculum and, therefore, mathematical opportunities should be exploited in all areas of learning within the EYFS curriculum.

The progression in 'Working Mathematically' skills have been re-formatted for each individual phase to support teachers when planning opportunities.
