This resource provides objectives and additional information for each topic in the national curriculum for science at KS1 and KS2 to support both planning and assessment. The purpose is to clarify the precise knowledge pupils need in order to develop a secure understanding of the broader national curriculum objectives.
The knowledge outlined has been designed to stick within the scope of the national curriculum, focusing on fundamental knowledge to secure understanding. Alongside the national curriculum objectives, shown in bold, examples of what pupils might know, say or write have been given, alongside definitions, to make age-appropriate expectations clear.
There is space to track pupils attainment and guidance of how to deepen understanding in each topic without straying into content that will be covered in later year groups or key stages.
