Mathematics curriculum self-evaluation materials
The following materials have been developed by the Herts for Learning Mathematics Team to support school leaders to evaluate the implementation, identify milestones and the most important next steps.
Five key focuses and a series of sub-strands have been identified to support this.
These are:
- Understanding the changes
- The aims of the mathematics curriculum
- Calculation
- Planning
- Assessment
The evaluative statements have been organised under four headings: 'Focusing; Developing; Establishing; Enhancing'.
Leaders are encouraged to select a focus and to highlight a statement that best represents the current position. It is important that this self-assessment is based on evidence. From this, leaders can then evaluate the broader picture and identify specific aspects to improve further. It is anticipated that, at this stage, many schools will be 'focusing' and 'developing' their practices.
